The 2007-2008 student products will be bookmarks in paper or electronic format.

Grade Categories:

  • Grades PreK–2
  • Grades 3-5
  • Grades 6-8
  • Grades 9-12

Prizes:

The following student prizes may be awarded for each grade category:

  • 1st place paper bookmark $100 savings bond
  • 2nd place paper bookmark $ 50 savings bond
  • 1st place electronic bookmark $100 savings bond
  • 2nd place electronic bookmark $ 50 savings bond


The library media center of the first place winners in each grade category will receive a Playaway. (title to be selected by the media specialist.)

Contest Rules and Information:

  • All entries must represent the theme I Love My Library Media Center!
  • Student entries must be produced by students only from the idea to the finished product.
  • Media specialists and teachers may offer instruction and supervision, but the actual work must be done by students only.
  • A maximum of one entry per applicant will be accepted for the contest.
  • All entries must:
    • Be original work
    • Be clearly drawn
    • Adhere to size regulations of 2 ½ by 7 ½ inches
    • Be submitted by mail with the official application form
    • Be mailed to: South Carolina Association of School Librarians / P.O. Box 2442 / Columbia SC 29202
    • Be postmarked by April 15, 2008.
  • Paper bookmark entries:
    • Must be submitted on the completed print official application form.
  • Electronic bookmark entries:
    • Must be submitted on CD.
    • A printed copy of the document may be included.
    • The entry will be judged using the electronic copy.
    • Each entry must be submitted separately.
    • Multiple entries on the same CD will be disqualified.
    • Must be accessible on computers operating Windows XP.
    • Must be in following formats. Note that this requires submission both as an image format and as a PDF.
      • Image format including: JPEG, GIF, TIFF, or EPS
      • PDF
    • Have the entrant’s name, grade level, and school clearly written on the CD.
    • The completed print official application form must be submitted in the envelope with the CD containing the electronic bookmark entry.
  • Schools are encouraged to have some type of school-wide contest or display to determine suitable entries for the state-wide competition.
  • Permission must be granted by the parents or guardians to use the student’s name in judging and publicizing the entry
  • Permission must be granted by the parents or guardians for use of the entry in SCASL publications, promotions, and products.
  • SCASL and appointed judges reserve the right to eliminate entries that, for any reason, misrepresent the rules or are deemed not suitable.
  • Entries will not be returned.
  • All decisions are final.

    Timeline:
  • Entries must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2008, and mailed to SCASL/ P.O. Box 2442 / Columbia SC 29202.
  • Winners will be announced May 30, 2008.
  • All entries may be used by SCASL in promotions, publications, and projects.
