SCASL Media Specialist of the Year

The Media Specialist of the Year Award honors a full-time school library media specialist who has made an outstanding contribution to school library media service in South Carolina. Nominees are judged on the basis of exemplary quality library media programs, collaborations with classroom teachers, and active membership in SCASL and related organizations. The first award was presented in 1986.

1987. Barbara Grinter at Cowpens Elementary School in Cowpens, SC (Spartanburg District 3).

1988. Barbara Clancey at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School in Columbia, SC (Richland District 2).

1989. Lawren Hammond at Paul Knox Middle School in North Augusta, SC (Aiken School District).

1990. Betty Ann Smith at Royall Elementary in Florence, SC. (Florence District 1).

1991. Melinda Hare at H. E. Corley Elementary in Irmo, SC (Lexington 5).

1992. Cecile Dorr at Laurel Bay School #2 in Laurel Bay, SC (Department of Defense School)

1993. Dottie Pitman at Greenville High School in Greenville, SC (Greenville School District).

1994. Vonnie Smith at Hannah-Pamplico High School in Pamplico, SC (Florence School District 2).

1995. Louise Smith at Eau Claire High School in Columbia, SC (Richland School District 1).

1996. Nitsa Demos at Orange Grove Elementary School in Charleston, SC (Charleston School District).

1997. Phyllis Mays at Allen L. Code Elementary in Seneca, SC (Oconee School District).

1998. Suzanne Baxley at Brooklyn Springs Elementary in Lancaster, SC (Lancaster School District).

1999. Betty Teague at Blythe Academy of Languages in Greenville, SC (Greenville School District).

2000. Anne Hood at Johnakin Middle School in Marion, SC (Marion School District 1).

2001, the winner was Deborah Ford at Charles Pinckney Elementary in Mt. Pleasant, SC (Charleston School District).

2002, the winner was Judy Parham at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, SC (Spartanburg School District 5).

2003, Sandra McLendon at Parker Academy of Fine Arts and Humanities in Greenville, S.C.

2004, Patricia Bynum at League Academy of Communication Arts (Greenville)

2005, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Padget Forest Lake Elementary, Columbia

2006, Betty Jordan, Sullivan Middle School, Rock Hill

2007, Carole McGrath, Wade Hampton High School
